This is how the payout system works.
min registration fee for a $ tournament is $1+$0.25, the $1 goes to the prize pot and the $0.25 goes to get gosu, that is how the site makes $. If 100 gamers register for a tournament, the site makes 100 x $0.25 = $25. Continuing the example, in a tournament with 100 gamers, lets assume they are in 20 teams of 5 gamers per team: with 20 teams the top 4 teams get paid (again read This is how the payout system works. ). First place team gets $39, 2nd place gets $25, third place gets $18 and 4th place gets $18.

If you comparing to goblam, then $1 is about what 40p? so similar registration amount for the minimum registration fees.

Prathesus, i didn’t call the goblam community small. I said Get Gosu will not host “small tournaments” where a whole tournament is just 1 match 5v5. That is not a tournament, its just a match. Okay, so small matches made the goblam community, unfortunately goblam didn’t have permission from valve to run those matches. We have spoken to Valve, they do not want us to run small matches for money, so we are not going to have small matches for money. That’s just the way it is for now. The goal is to make big tournaments the promote CSS in a good way like “Get Gosu just hosted the largest eSports tournament ever and the top team teams won a bizzilion dollars” instead of “hey i heard you can gamble at get Gosu.” We, and Valve want the former, we do not want to be associated with the latter.

We are not looking at just teams with large amounts of money. When we are live you can play a real money tournament for like $1+$0.25, that is not a large sum afaik. That is a small enough sum that you might play with either your team, or with random gamers. I think if you want to play for large sums then you probably will want to play with your team, yes, because you want to know you all work together well, have good teammwork, know strats, execute strats as a team, etc.

But if you just want to have your ‘average’ gamer play a PUG, well then small $1 tournaments or Practice Play (where there are no $ prizes and you could play a 5v5 since there is no $ prize, its just a PUG/scrim) should work alright…

TSA, afaik t.com went out of business b/c they didn’t make any money (they were paying people to play at their site, its supposed to be the opposite, the customer is supposed to pay, that’s how every other business on earth works). Afaik t.com did not go out of business b/c of a licensing issue. Afaik goblam went out of business b/c they didn’t have any relationship with valve at all and got in trouble with valve. maybe i’m wrong, but that’s what i know.

No, you do not have to worry about other sites and no we will not be taking your money. Absolutely not. Your money is essentially held in escrow, it is your money. We are legally bound to keep the money in your account balance safe until you withdrawal it.

Quote – OL – “We are going to make big tournaments that promote CS in a good way. We are not going to provide small 5v5 matches for money like t.com and goblam did. We (and valve) do not think these small matches are good for the community.”

The small matchs made the community goblam.com was actually working before the event. it proved that mass games could work and this and pf is what the community that ur aiming at is used to. Valve might want to reinject life into css again but unless they target all areas of the market then its gona turn out abit ish. atm your aiming at soleley teams of css players with large amounts of money willing to invest it prior to playing. that is a small market void if there wanting players to return just for this. =D

and i wouldnt of called gb small ether with over 400 ppl in there final id say it was pretty hoofin tbh=D

sorry to keep quoting from the old sites but they are basically lessons for whichever company makes it big outa this needed market spot. i dont wanna see this site become another lesson.

I am saying if another site comes out are you guys going to have to battle for the exclusive rights for the game like t.com, goblam.com did? I don’t want to deposit money on the site and then get it shut down and my monies taken.

2010/01/14 - 01:42

TSA not sure what you mean?

2010/01/14 - 01:36

Ok sweet! Did you guys get the exclusives to all valve games or is the same going to happen like with t.com and goblam.com?

2010/01/14 - 01:33

yes this is cool with valve. We are going to make big tournaments that promote CS in a good way. We are not going to provide small 5v5 matches for money like t.com and goblam did. We (and valve) do not think these small matches are good for the community. If you want to play a small match like a 5v5 you have to play “Practice Play” which does not have a $ prize (you can only win Exp points and achievements/things with no $ value in Practice Play, its just for bragging rights). When it comes to $ tournameents we want to make huge tournaments that promote Get Gosu, Valve, Counter Strike, and eSports in a good way!

I also have a question it falls more into the legal category. I would like to play but, want to make sure it is legal. Have you guys got a license from valve to use their games?

1. not sure, the more people play in the beta, the shorter it will be. so plz bring your team or clan if you have one!
2. No deposits whatsoever for beta. when beta is over, yes you will have to pay to play. there will be benefits/sponsor money coming for both the beta and live periods.
3. Yes.
4. The company is called Hit the Sticks, LLC. No one from old esports crowd, except for some programmers that have worked on SRCDS plugins in the past for people like hlstatsx and game server companies.

2010/01/12 - 22:13

1: How long will the beta last for,

2: Will there be any cash injected into this by GOSU or will everyone require to deposit first. Is there any benefit for the BETA players?

3: Have you already sorted this out with valve and learnt from the age old mistake of goblam et pf.com?

4: which body is behind this bad boy any known ppls from the old crowed?
